The Hanged Man is the twelveth arcanum in a Tarot card deck. The figure on this arcanum is the one of a men hanging from on of his foot and has the right leg crossed behind the left If you take a closer look at his face, you'll quickly realize that he doesn't suffer at all but instead, he's intensely thinking.

The Hanged Man lame stands for events that you have no control over. This doesn't mean that he is apathetic or passive. Instead the man that is hanging upside down on the card is elaborating plans to overcome those events. 

The card is the one of high level mysticism. It is one of those few cards that carries a high level of spirituality. Many think that is is a negative card as they don't see the bright side of it: the spiritual temper of the character.

Although the character on the card might have lost his energy, his inner himself is still active and in full mode as, as illustrated on the card, the colors of the intellect, passion, action and nature are dominant. Because he is hanged upside down and sees the world this weird way, the see things that the average human being doesn't see at all.

This Tarot card represents introspection and questioning. It is also synonymous with expectation. But in no way does it represent the end of something.

The Hanged Man meaning in a spread

Right position:

When placed on the table in its normal position, the arcanum relates lack of action, loss of control, punishment and time.

Upside down:

When in the reversed position, the lame relates to sacrifice (often useless), egotism, anxiety.

Indeed these meaning look negative but remember that the Hanged Man turns all those downtimes into something productive by thinking, elaborating strategies and also highly respects the notion of time.

The Emperor is sign of power, domination. Associated with the Strength it becomes even more powerful. 

The Chariot:

TheChariot is the symbol of victory. When placed to the right of the Strength, it means that you are going to overcome any kind of obstacle.

The Hanged man:

When coupled with the Strength, it will mean that the situation makes no sense.

Temperance:

Temperance is a spiritual card. When coupled with the Strength it relates to physical energy and good health.

The Sun:

When associated with the Sun it will result in satisfaction.

Today I'm going to talk you through the 11th major arcanum of the tarot card deck. This arcanum is named Strength.

What does the Strength look like

The Strength card is adorned with a woman who is dominating a lion, one of the most powerful and dangerous animals on Earth.

However she is not frightened and quietly dominates him like it is a plush toy.

The woman who features the Strength wears a red cape on a rich blue and golden dress. Her attire let us know that she is a powerful character like an empress or a queen. She also wears a big blue and golden hat topped with a crown. Now we know that this woman has a lot of power.

She is also intelligent as, as you can see on the picture, she protected her hands and arms with gloves - before going on to fight against the animal.

This tarot arcanum symbolizes the domination of spirited people over brute physical ones. Strength is not always a question of muscles and violence, it is also a question spirit. All in all the Strength is a representation of what mankind is supposed to look like.

Meaning of the Strength tarot

When spread in a normal position, head upside, the arcanum has a very positive influence over your psychic reading. It thus relates to energy, heroism, strength - both mental and physical - confidence, reliance, firmness.

If after shuffling, the card is placed head downside then your strength or the one of the person the psychic reading is done is quite the opposite. In this case it may relate to doubt, lack of self confidence, lack of energy, fear, shyness, etc.

As usual we suffle the cards, the consultant is asked to "cut" the deck with her left hand (the one of her heart) while thinking of her question and then we spread our 4 major arcana in the shape of a cross so as to provide her with an answer.

Here is our spread:

Left: The Lovers
Right: The Emperor
Up: The Temperance
Down: The Strength

Result:

1. The Lovers : the boyfriend loves his girlfriend very much and there is no reason for the relationship to end these days

2. The Emperor: sadly the boyfriend is a hard head and stands on his position and will for a longtime

3. The Temperance: our consultant wants communication...

4. The Strength: here the Strength lets our client know that she is going to have to force her boyfriend to get back to her. Because he stands on his position so hard she will have to take the first steps in this matter. If she doesn't move, he won't move either.

As you can see the Strength may also represent the things you have to do for things to work, the people you have to force to do things. Your Strength has an effect on others' acts.

The synthetisis of our spread is quite positive with: 6 + 4 + 14 + 11 = 35 --> 3 + 5 = 8.

Number 8 = Justice. Justice arcanum is balance, things that settle after a fight, things that are going to get back to normal.

More Meanings for the Wheel of Fortune

The other day, I walked you through the Wheel of Fortune tarot card meaning. Today I'm going to talk about the different meanings that this card may have depending on the other arcana that surround it.

As already stated this card is versatile and can be positive or negative very easily. It is also really easy to guess it's good or bad meaning from its neighboring cards.

Positive or negative tarot spread?

In the psychic reading I detailed the other day the tarot card was placed right after the Death; which is symbol of the end of an era or entire renewal (in a good sense in this case).

The Death relates to changes, and the Wheel of Fortune to its right was supposed to provide us with more in-depth information. However and because the card is so versatile it did not provide us with any more information than "indeed, the change will be dramatic".

OK. Dramatic but... in which way ???

In order to provide more information to my client I needed to spread another card. That is where the Chariot and it so positive effects impacted my reading and allowed me to say that the outcome would be so positive.

Now imagine that, instead of the Chariot we would have had the Tower; which is a very negative arcanum. The most negative one in the whole deck. 

The association of the Death and the Wheel of fortune would have been entirely different. From a positive outcome we would have had a disaster! As indeed, with the Tower in the neighborhood, this psychic reading would have been extremely negative with the client laid off, jobless for a long time, depressed, etc. 

Some more interpretations for the tenth tarot arcanum

The Empress

When spread to the right of the Empress, this arcanum tells us that our destiny is in the hands of a woman. This can be in all kinds of situations, from employment questions to love matters.

The Magician

When placed to the right of the Magician and spread for a man, it may relate to its occupation. One of the meanings may tell us that this man is going to get a promotion and higher wages, for example. You will look at the next cards to provide a more accurate prediction.

The Sun

Place the Wheel of Fortune to the right of the Sun and you can tell your client that he/she's going to be successful in all domains of his/her life. Obviously, the previous and next cards will provide you with more accurate answers.

The Tower

Depending on where the Tower is placed the meaning can be positive or negative:

• Tower to the right: misfortune, loss of money, failure...
• Tower to the left: (double check neighboring cards!!!) end of problems, end of an era, renewal, etc.

The Wheel of Fortune tarot card is the tenth arcanum and a very versatile one. It can be whether positive or negative depending on its neighboring cards and the situation the consultant is experiencing. 

The drawing on this card is the one of a wheel that is into motion and that sands for changes in life. The good and the bad. The luck and the misfortunes. It is a symbol of our destiny.

This card is adorned with a wheel in motion; which represents the changes of our life. The Wheel Of Fortune card symbolizes our destiny.

Two figures are on the Wheel of Fortune: on the right is Hermanubis, good engineering and on the left is Typhon, the perversion symbol.

In the Tarot de Marseille deck you can see a Sphinx sitting on the top of this moving wheel. It is meant to represent the balance between good and evil. The Sphinx is also symbol of destiny. 

The Wheel of Fortune is the visual drawing of the ups and downs that rhythm our lives. It relates to joy and sorrow, good and bad, what will happen and what won't happen, money to be earned and money to be spent/stolen. 

The Wheel of Fortune's meaning

When spread in its normal position the arcanum relates to the success we will get in whatever we do, the good intuitions we are provided with, the money that we are going to get, whether a surprise or a due amount of money; it is also synonym of our victory over the elements - more like some won battle or fight or just the ability to overcome bad events.

When it is spread upside down, the card represents the future potential failures, the missed opportunities because of life events that are going to interfere in your endeavours, the lack of stability, the loss of money (taxes, stolen money, etc.), situations that are blocked and don't seem to get better.

Here I'm going to tell you what you can predict from a psychic reading I have done in the past using the Wheel of Fortune tarot card. We are talking about a consultant that has problems with her job and wants to learn as to whether her boss will laid her off or if things are going to settle soon.

Spread using the Moon, Magician, Death, Wheel of Fortune and Chariot

As you can see above, we have spread five cards and placed them on our tarot placemat this way:

1. The Moon,
2. The Magician,
3. The Death,
4. The Wheel of Fortune,
5. The Chariot.

As you can see, our tenth tarot arcanum is placed to the right of the Death (13th). The place of your card is very important as it does not have the same implication when it is placed to the right than when it is placed to the left.

Here the Wheel on the left symbolizes the positive outcomes after the elements brought by the Death would affect the consultant. The Death placed before the Wheel of Fortune in our spread means the end of something with a positive outcome.

The Moon represents the worries of our client - illusions, nightmares, etc. In a spread for a question relating to a marriage the Moon would represent the household.

The Magician here is our client's position that she considers very important in her life. 

The association of the Moon and Chariot confirm that, whatever the truth behind her worries, she definitely fears the loss of her job.

Next we find the Death and the Wheel of Fortune. We can associate them and see that, with the Chariot after both of these cards, the answer is going to be positive. The 13th and 10th arcana let us know that our client is soon going to soon be reassured and see a brighter professional future.

The Chariot after the tenth arcanum confirms that she is going to get whether a better position in the company or a new job. 

I only used 5 cards in this spread and thus we will not know what exactly is the prediction as a whole. More cards after the Chariot would have helped us to make an entire predicition. The use of minor arcana would have provided even more details.

Some More Ways To Read The Hermit Tarot Card

The Hermit - 9th major arcanum

Last time I posted I reviewed the Hermit tarot card and gave you a manner to read it in a specific spread. Today I am going to show you how to read it in some other ways.

When doing psychic readings, you do not always provide the card with the same meaning. You must also look at the arcana that surround the card you are reading and their own meaning that is also supposed to be related to their neighboring cards.

Complicated, uh?

Well, indeed, psychic reading is a hard task and that is why it is often high priced. However, a good fortune teller is supposed to know her/his job and, more particularly, his/her cards and their meanings.

What does the Hermit tarot card stand for?

So here are some other manners to talk about the 9th tarot arcanum.

The Hermit straight can mean different things such as:

• Time enforces sentiments in a relationship,
• Be cautious about something,
• The person you are asking the reading for does not want to communicate,
• Quiet area when spread about a location you are looking to buy for example,
• Good news when related to some money matters such as stock options, etc.

Character representation:

• A doctor,
• Old people or grand parents,
• A priest,
• A scientist...

Health matters:

• Backpain,
• Arthritis...

As you can see, the arcanum does not provide us with negative answers, especially when spread in its normal position. 

Also in some countries, doing health related clairvoyance is forbidden, and so it is in my area, therefore I never do such readings. Though telling someone that you see they have backpain is not that a big deal... and can help you get some more credit if it turns out to be true.

Note: personally I very rarely spread cards upside down as all of them always come with both positive and negative meanings whatever their position.

All About the Hermit Tarot

The Ermit or Hermit tarot card is the 9th arcanum in the major lame deck. It is a card with a lot of different meanings that all relate to loneliness, thought and wisdom. It is not a negative card although it is not the most positive one either. Let's say that we can consider a mid-way card.

The Hermit relates to the inner you

The drawing is the one of an old man. He is dressed in a long cape of which the back is the one of a poor man and the inside is the one of a wealthy person. He also carries a lantern. He must get help from a cane in order to walk - this confirms that he is quite old.

If you take a closer look at the picture you will also notice that the Hermit walks with caution, he looks where his feet are and what they are doing. He makes sure he will not fall in any kind of trap.

The two different types of clothing you notice on his cape mean that the Hermit is more interested with the value of the inner wealth (the one that your soul is provided with) than to exhibition of wealth. This tarot card will thus relate more to the inner you than people around you and things that you own or want to own.

The 9th tarot card's meaning in a spread

When spread in its normal position, the card stands for contemplation, caution, protection, meditation, preservation and reflexion. However it may also relate to cynism...

When spread upside down, the card has an entirely different meaning that is quite negative! It may mean selfishness, greed, indolence and the planning of dishonest actions.

When spread during a psychic reading and in a favorable position or place, this card will let your consultant know about the importance of reflexion in the situation  the person is asking for that reading. This can also mean that the person must seriously think about any action she plans to do in the future: reflexion, patience and time are the keywords for you to read that card correctly.


If this arcanum is spread in a negative position or upside down, it just confirms that the situation will not evolve. Things may be blocked somewhere in your consultant's life. Now the consultant might also not be eager to take action in order to change things. Last but not the least, the consultant's associates/friends/boyfriend may also be lacking of passion, action and courage.

Life-like spread using the Hermit tarot card

Let's say that your client is a woman who applied for a new job and did not receive any reply yet. She knows that other applicants are men and that the world doesn't give as many chances to women than to men. Thus she wants to know as to whether she is going to get the job or not. We will use the simple cross for a quick answer.

We shuffle the cards and spread four of them:


Left: The Magician
Right: The Hermit
Top: The Temperance
Bottom: The Sun

The Magician allows us to tell our consultant that the employer knows that she has the needed skills for the job. He really knows that she IS the right person.

However, the Hermit says that the employer is a misogynist and that he does not want a woman to take the position. Because it is also a card of time, the answer may take some additional days and even weeks before being sent to the applicant.

On top we have the Temperance that symbolizes our consultant who is expecting communication from the company and the human resource department.

At the bottom, we have the Sun as the answer: despite the employer's misogyny, he is going to hire our consultant. If we add more cards we could even learn why... Chances are that it is because she is the only one qualified for the job despite the fact that the employer interviewed dozens of men.

The Justice Tarot Is the 8th Major Arcanum

The Justice tarot card

Justice is represented by a female figure who is sitting on a throne painted in gold color. Gold is the color that is tied to intelligence. The woman who stands for the Justice holds the Sword of Justice in one right hand and the Scale of Justice in her other hand. Both tools are made out of precious gold matter.

This character seems impartial. The figure represents integrity and incorruptibility. As the popular saying pretends: Justice is supposed to be blind.

Primary meaning of the Justice tarot card

When spread in a normal position, the Justice relates to fairness, honesty, excellence, goodness, durability; which are among the most important signs of strength.

If the arcanum is spread in its reversed position then it stands for the contrary of all these qualities: fragility, changeableness, duplicity, deceatfulness, weakness, etc.

6 month evolution spread using the Justice

In order to allow you to better understand how the 8th tarot card works, I'm going to show you a 6 month evolution spread. The card will be part of the spread and come in one of the 5 potential positions.

This spread would be done for a person who is looking forward to learning more about the next 6 month on a general basis. Nothing really narrow, no specific category, she just wants to know what's going to happen in her life.

For such a spread, we use both major and minor arcana. First I shuffle the major arcana deck, then I select 5 cards. Next I shuffle the minor arcana deck which contains 56 cards and select 5 of them.

I place the two selections in line: first line includes the major arcana, the second line includes the minor ones.

6 month evolution using the Justice tarot card

Here are the cards as they appeared after the spread

• The High Priestess - Sixth of Coins
• The Moon - Servant of Swords
• The Justice - King of Swords
• The Wheel of Fortune - Ace of Spears
• The Magician - Ace of Coins

How to read this evolution spread

1. The High Priestess - Six of Coins: our client is about to have to deal with financial troubles.
2. The Moon - Servant of Swords: she also faces troubles in her household with a child/young person that is bringing so much disappointment in her life. It also seems that the money problems she's about to have to deal with are her child's fault.
3. The Justice - King of Swords: chances are that our client is going to have to see a lawyer in order to solve these major problems.
4. The Wheel of Fortune - Ace of Spears: but it seems that things are going to turn out good and that she's going to successfully overcome these problems.
5. The Magician - Ace of Coins: it's magic! This association is messenger of financial reward!

This is only one of the many ways that one can read the tarot card spread including Justice. Naturally for someone who does not have to deal with such problems, the Justice may just have another meaning.

The Chariot's Meaning and Secrets

One of the most positive tarot card in our deck is the seventh major arcanum: the Chariot. It's more or less with the same name that it comes in the original Marseille deck: "le Chariot".

It is a card that relates to victory and ensures that things are going to get better. However, at some point it might also relate to definitely negative things.

What do we see on the Chariot card?

There is a carriage lead by a man. The man is, in reality the Emperor (fourth tarot card). As you can notice, the man looks self-confident and trusts the horses that drive the tank.

There is one red horse and one blue. These are the royal colors, which means that even the horses are of a noble descent.

Primary meaning of the Chariot tarot card

When pulled in its normal position this major arcanum relates to luck, good fortune, commercial success, business with foreign partners, triumph in all matters, etc. 

When pulled upside down, this arcanum relates to miscarriage, fiasco, defeat, disappointment, running away, and so on.

I just signed with a new employer from a newspaper, is this job the right for me?

Our cross looks like this:

• Left: the Wheel of fortune,
• Right: the Popess,
• Top: the World,
• Bottom: the Chariot

Here is how we can read these arcana:

1. The Wheel of fortune - things are changing in a positive way
2. The Popess - our client should open her heart and soul to others and not stay lonely, she is also too cautious and should step in the adventure without fear,
3. The World - that is our client's hopes: the best, of course,
4. The Chariot - the answer is yes, this is a good job, it is going to bring our client lots of pleasure and she will love it.

Synthesis of 4 cards: 4 -- this is the Emperor tarot. And the Emperor is a sign of stability; which confirms that this job is the right one for our client.

Still in our major arcana category, the sixth card is the Lovers. You will find it under the name of "L'amoureux" in the original deck. Don't be mistaken: the Lovers doesn't relate to love matters, it relates to something entirely different.

What do you see on this major arcanum?

In the background you see the Sun and a cupid. The main character of this tarot card is a man who is between two women: one rich and one poor. This card symbolizes the good and the bad, the choices that we have to do between two routes.

The man wears brightly colored clothes; one of the woman wears a red and blue intricate dress and her head it topped with some kind of crown, the other one does not and her clothes are more simple.

Primary meanings of the tarot card the Lovers

When coming in a normal position, the Lovers relates to positive things, right decisions, new meetings, new romance, it also relates to young people.

When it comes its upside turned down it relates to capriciousness, inconstancy, lack of affection, cowardice...

The Lovers in a spread:

The question we have to provide an answer to: are her boyfriend and herself getting married soon?

Using the cross spread, we pull four cards as follows:

• Left: the Empress
• Right: the Justice
• Top: the Sun
• Bottom: the Lovers

As you can see the Lovers is the answer. But let's start with the first card pulled out of the deck.

1. The Empress - our client's fiance loves her very much and would want to make her his wife.
2. The Justice - however there is something that is blocking the situation - perhaps a divorce that isn't solved yet or the fiance does not have a stable revenue to ensure safety for life -- we should add a card on it so as to learn more.
3. The Sun - our client really wants to get married to him.
4. The Lovers - the boyfriend will make the right decision, or client needs to be patient.

The synthesis gives us the number 9 - which is the number of another tarot card: the Hermit. And the Hermit is the card of patience and time.

I can't repeat it enough: the cross spread is a quick and easy spread that only answers to questions by "yes" or "no". When one really wants more in-depth details, one definitely must use other types of spreads.

It is not easy to see them on this picture but the symbols of seven planets are drawn on his crozier. These relate to the divine world.

This individual relates to chastity, decency, clarity, noble persons, good principles.

The Pope or Hierophant basic meaning

In the right position, this Tarot card represents affection, benevolence, discernement, erudition, prudence, and the character clearly lets people know that he is devoted to everlasting traditions.

When its upside is turned down, it may signify fearfulness, frivolousness, lack of moral sense.

Using the cross spread we are going to answer a very simple question: is my daughter going to successfully study at the University?

The four cards required for the spread are the following ones:

• Left: Strength
• Right: the Pope
• Top: the Popess
• Bottom: the Fool

How to read this spread 

The Strength on the left makes me think that the daughter has the power and the will to succeed. However, with the Pope on the right it seems that she is surrounded by negative people, persons who are not interested in studying. Her mother is very worried as suggested by the Popess on top. Today we're going to talk through The Emperor, the tarot card number 4. In the Marseille deck it comes with the name of "L'empereur".

It is, like the others, a major card and is a very positive one. Moreover, it wears the number 4 which is a sign of stability an strength.

The character drawn on the card is half-sitting/half standing before a throne. It is a mature man. It is also a powerful man as you can see by the gold shield besides him. And eagle is painted on that shield: it is a sign of high power as eagles are crowned birds.

We notice that the man is standing/sitting "still" which means that nothing can scare him. It is a character related to triumph as well.

The Emperor basic meanings:

When pulled in the right position, the card symbolizes ascendency on others, supremacy, domination, strength, balance, good fortune. Because its number is 4 it also means square and square often represents home, family, safety. 

When the card is turned down, it comes with all its negative representations: depression, adversity, misfortune, brutality, a jobless person, lack of authority, lack of self confidence, etc.

The Moon represents our client's questions and worries.

The Chariot at the end of the spread means that her husband is going to leave. 

The synthesis represents the Justice card (6 + 4 + 18 + 7 = 35 - 3 + 5 = 8); which, in this case, corresponds to the legal steps to divorce.

Is that so easy to tell the future?

All right then, what I did here is a very quick and easy tarot card reading and this isn't always as easy at it may seem. So many factors have to be taken into consideration. However, this spread might have had a more positive meaning if our client would have asked if she would be able to keep her husband away from leaving. In this case the Chariot would mean that she would succeed and the synthesis would relate to quiet life together.
